The Journey of Justice For Orphans
Where a Heart for Children Became a Movement
Justice For Orphans (JFO) was founded in 2012 by Sandra Flach and Mary Slager—adoptive and foster moms deeply moved by both the global orphan crisis and the growing needs within the U.S. foster care system. What began as a mission to rally the Church quickly grew into a broader movement of advocacy and action.

Rooted in Media, Growing in Mission
From hosting annual adoption and foster care conferences, JFO expanded into media with a weekly radio show, now the Adoption & Foster Care Journey podcast, designed to encourage, educate, and equip caregivers. JFO also offers impactful training on topics like Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), poverty, suicide prevention, and trauma-informed care.
From Advocacy to Action
In 2018, JFO became the official Implementing Partner for CarePortal in Upstate New York. This technology platform connects child-serving professionals with local churches, community members, and businesses to meet the real-time needs of children and families.

Mission Meets Marketplace
In 2023, JFO launched ReFurnishings, a furniture thrift store created to serve both practical and financial needs in the community. Located in Ravena, NY, ReFurnishings provides affordable, high-quality furniture to the public while also offering free furnishings to CarePortal churches responding to local needs. Proceeds from the store directly support JFO’s nonprofit initiatives, making ReFurnishings both a mission-driven retail space and a vital link in our chain of care.
Our Vision
Guided by Faith. Driven by Love.
Rooted in our core values—collaboration, community building, integrity, leadership, and responsible stewardship—Justice For Orphans remains committed to strengthening families, supporting caregivers, and empowering the Church to respond to the needs of vulnerable children. As we grow, we continue to inspire and equip others to join us in transforming lives and restoring hope.
