313 Schenectady Kids Served So Far!

Eight months ago we took a step of faith along with several local churches who partnered with us and launched CarePortal in the Capital Region of upstate NY. CarePortal is an online platform that connects local child welfare agencies with churches to help meet the needs of local children and families in crisis. We began working with the Dept. of Children and Family Services in Schenectady County and to date over 313 Schenectady children have been served by local congregations through the CarePortal.

Basically, county caseworkers uncover needs that if met would help stabilize a family, essentially keeping children out of foster care or even reunifying parents with children who have been in care. Literally, a bed or a crib could make the difference in whether a child remains at home or placed in care. Requests are entered into the CarePortal system by the caseworker and then emailed to the participating churches throughout the community. If a church chooses to meet the request they simply email the case worker back and the logistics are worked out as to where and when items are delivered to the family in need; Thus creating an opportunity for the Church to not only meet needs but to also make connections with families right in their community.

CarePortal Capital Region has been so successful that both Schenectady County and the churches involved give it a 5 star rating. Presently we have 17 churches in our CarePortal network between Schenectady, Albany, and Saratoga counties. We need to grow this network, especially since we will be launching CarePortal in Albany County next month. If you or your church would like to partner with us by utilizing this ministry and discipleship tool to effectively impact your local community you can learn more and enroll your church at CarePortal.org.
