CarePortal Launched in Albany County!
Justice For Orphans launched CarePortal in Schenectady County in 2018 making it the first county in New York state to utilize the platform. CarePortal is a technology tool connecting child welfare agencies with churches in order to meet the needs of local children and families in crisis. In less than one year, 375 Schenectady County children have been served by local churches through the CarePortal. The churches are meeting physical needs that have been vetted by county caseworkers. These needs often include beds, bedding, cribs, dressers, groceries, car seats, etc. all which help to improve the well-being of a child while stabilizing their family situation. In the process of meeting these needs, churches are able to connect with the families in their community and begin to build life-changing relationships. On October 1, 2019, Justice For Orphans launched CarePortal in Albany County with a press conference called by Albany County Executive, Daniel McCoy. The need is great for community collaboration on behalf of Albany County children and families in crisis. In 2018 alone there were over 3,300 calls to Child Protective Services, 219 Albany County kids in foster care, and 50 waiting to be adopted.* Every call made represents a family in crisis. While the need seems overwhelming, there are 234 Christian churches in Albany County indicating there is more than enough resources to meet needs and provide support to help struggling families be successful. In addition to churches, businesses and individuals play a valuable role. Local business woman, Crystal Langdon of Crystal Clear Finances, provided funds to sponsor Albany County’s implementation of CarePortal. At the press conference, Langdon invited other businesses to get on board stating that, “Together, we can invest in our greatest resource…our children!”
