103 Schenectady County Children Served!

There are children and families in crisis in every community across the United States. Locally, in Schenectady County in 2017 alone, there were *2,243 calls to child welfare which triggered 2,191 investigations. This resulted in 115 children being removed from their homes and 41 children needing to be adopted after parental rights were terminated.

There is a light now shining in this darkness. CarePortal, the online technology platform connecting child welfare agencies with churches has been implemented in Schenectady County by Justice For Orphans. Since it’s launch in November of 2018, Schenectady County Office of Children and Family Services has entered 59 requests into the CarePortal which were sent to a network of churches now totaling 15 congregations. Together these churches have met 42 of the requests and have served 103 Schenectady kids so far with an economic impact of $33,189. Both Schenectady County OCFS and the participating churches are giving CarePortal a 5 Star rating.

Justice For Orphans plans to expand CarePortal into neighboring counties throughout the Capital Region and to continuously grow the network of participating churches.
